Splendora traces its modern development back to the late 19th century when the Houston East and West Texas Railway laid tracks through the densely forested wilderness of north Montgomery County. Originally known as "Cox's Switch" or "Splendora Station," the settlement was heavily driven by the booming pine timber, logging, and sawmill industries. In 1883, the town received a permanent identity when local postmaster Milton Cable requested the name "Splendora," inspired by the splendid abundance of beautiful floral arrangements and majestic trees blooming across the local territory. The city officially incorporated in December 1966 to establish an autonomous public infrastructure and protect its boundary coordinates.
