The History
The name Atascocita stems from the historic 1756 Spanish military outpost and subsequent highway known as the Atascocito Road. This critical thoroughfare connected New Spain from San Antonio to Spanish Louisiana, serving as a primary route for American migrants traveling into Texas during the 1820s and 1830s. While the region remained primarily rural for decades, a massive transformation occurred in the 1950s with the construction of the Lake Houston Dam, creating a 12,000-acre reservoir that completely reshaped the local landscape. Master-planned neighborhood development surged aggressively during the 1970s and 1990s, turning Atascocita into one of the fastest-growing residential communities in the Greater Houston area.
